This week Derek and Beano dive into some of the most entertaining and/or outlanding fan-theories surrounding pop culture. Some people might call them conspiracy theories, while others call them crazy rantings from fanboys (and girls) with too much free time. Jessica Fletcher is a serial killer, Count Von Count from Sesame Street feeds on children's youth, Snow White was actually just a story about death, Avril Lavigne died and was "replaced" in 2013? Yeah, there is some crazy stuff in here...Any crazy conspiracies you've heard of that we should know about?

Are eSports Real Sports? - Get Geekish - Episode 25, August 8, 2018

Okay, let me be the first to admit, that when Derek came to me with a podcast idea about eSports being "real" sports, I was ready to throw them under the bus. But after a bit of research and looking into the meteoric rise of competitive gaming, I'm ready to concede that eSports can fall under the "sports" umbrella. (Hey, if people can classify chess, poker, and NASCAR as sports, then I think gaming can find its own niche. -Beano
Here is the League of Legends video I referred to in the podcast that shows sport and TV analysts badmouth eSports intermixed with footage of packed arenas cheering on professional gamers. It's not quite "Rudy" or "Remember the Titans", but I will say it got me jazzed up about League of Legends, which I've never actually played.

Spin-offs seem like they are a necessity to television. People like a show and the creators take certain parts of that show and create another show to see if they can keep the interest up. (Or at least make some money.) Some are good, some are bad, some you might not even realize are spin-offs. These shows are what we discuss in the latest Get Geekish Podcast.

We're podcasting from the inaugural Estes Park Comic Con! Today we had the pleasure of a quick interview with the talented and hilarious Paul Soter. We talked a bit about some of what he's geekish about as well as some of what he has in the works right now. (Don't forget Super Troopers 2 is available now on digital and the Blu-ray comes out on Tuesday.) We also spent a few minutes talking with Serafina Cosplay about some of her work and her love of a few 80s and 90s cartoon shows. (*cough cough*...She Rah and Power Rangers.)
Every first year cons has its share of ups and downs, but we're having a blast so far. We'll pop up a bonus episode after the con wraps up.

We started Get Geekish because we love a lot of geeky things, and we came to the realization that being a geek about something simply means that you have passion for it. So, we want to celebrate all the things in the world we geek out over and encourage others to let their geek flags fly, for whatever they want!
you can also find video versions of all of our podcasts on YouTube, and follow our shenanigans on social media, or at getgeekish.com.
